Tom Ingram confident there’s more to come from Speedworks Toyota
Tom Ingram is hopeful that the Speedworks Motorsport outfit can pull out a repeat performance of its opening round success after a promising morning of testing at Donington Park.
The round one winner was third in FP2 around the Leicestershire circuit, 0.248 seconds behind Triple Eight’s Josh Cook and West Surrey Racing’s Sam Tordoff, but Ingram feels there’s still a lot more to come from his Toyota Avensis.
“[We feel] Really strong, and feeling very helpful seeing the times,” Ingram told TouringCarTimes. “Everyone’s done their times on new tyres right at the end and we did ours on 25 lap old tyres so promising so far. We know that the pace is going to come massively down for qualifying and we’re probably going to see another four or five tenths come off the times.
“We’ve got time to find as has everyone else so it’s down to the jump that we can find from now to qualifying. The car felt very good making quite a few changes throughout the session and it seemed to respond very well.”
Despite winning the first race at Brands Hatch, Ingram’s rounds two and three were not so successful and as a result came away with only 9th place in the standings, which gives him a lighter car when compared to some of his rivals at the sharp end of the grid.
“We’re 9th in the championship so we’ve got the best part of 15kgs of ballast so we’ve got some in there but not a huge amount,” he continued. “Performance wise it shouldn’t effect anywhere near as much as the guys at the front of the championship, that’s fairly obvious, it should be fairly interesting. The plan is to try and match what we did at Brands, being realistic we know that’s going to be difficult but we’ll give it a good shot, you never know.”
