Alberto Viberti inherits maiden TCR win from Roberto Colciago

Alberto Viberti took his maiden TCR Italy win at Misano for BRC Racing after AGS’s Roberto Colciago was handed a penalty for an overtake on the SEAT driver, which relegated him to second. Romy Dall’Antonia won a fierce fight for third in the BF Racing SEAT.

At the start pole sitter Viberti retained the lead, but the focus was immediately on Colciago, who started making up places very quickly. It took eight laps for the Honda driver to get in the slipstream of Viberti, starting a very entertaining fight which finished two laps from the chequered flag, when the pair made contact and Colciago took the lead.

After the race, however, the stewards decided to penalise the former STCC champion for the move, thus moving him back to second and handing Viberti his maiden TCR Italy win.

Behind the leading duo, Vincenzo Montalbano was third for BF Racing, but he used up his tyres to the extent team-mate Dall’Antonia was able to get past him, soon imitated by Team Bassano’s Daniele Cappellari. Marco Costamagna finished sixth for BRC Racing, while Renato Gaiofatto took another win for the Peugeot 308 MI16 in the TCS class.

The championship will be back on track on July, 3rd, at Magione.
