Alberto Viberti takes TCR Italy Mugello win as Roberto Colciago retires
Alberto Viberti managed to turn his pole position into a race win at Mugello for BRC Racing, the young Italian making full use of former leader Roberto Colciago’s technical issues on the penultimate lap. BF Motorsport’s Romy Dall’Antonia came second ahead of VFR Racing’s Finlay Crocker, who took his maiden podium at the wheel of the Honda Civic TCR.
Colciago had taken the lead on the second lap, confirming he got on top of the issues which slowed him down in qualifying, always keeping Viberti to a distance.
Behind the duo was Dall’Antonia, while Crocker emerged fourth from a duel with Daniele Cappellari and Honda’s Emanuele Alborghetti, who later retired as the driver still suffered from physical problems after the heavy accident he was involved in yesterday.
Despite attacking Cappellari up until the last corner, Marco Costamagna went no further than fifth in his BRC Racing SEAT, finishing ahead of Luigi Bamonte, who was involved in an entertaining fight with the works Citroën C3 Max driven by Massimo Arduini.
Alberto Bassi won the TCS class in the SEAT Leòn ST wagon, coming eighth outright.
Viberti is now to 40 points behind championship leader Colciago. Next up for TCR Italy is Vallelunga on September, 4th.
