Michael Caine again misses out at Silverstone
Tony Gilham will continue to race for Team HARD in this weekend’s Silverstone rounds of the BTCC season after Michael Caine was again ruled out with injury.
Caine, who joined the team for the second half of the campaign, suffered a reoccurrence of an old injury at Knockhill and was then forced to sit out the Rockingham weekend on medical advice, with team boss Gilham stepping in to take his place.
Although Caine had hoped to be back behind the wheel at Silverstone, he has instead been told to continue resting and will now focus on making a return to action on Finals Day at Brands Hatch as he continues with his plans to contest a full season in 2017.
“It’s really a case of me being sensible and not listening to my testosterone!” he said. “I’m almost back to fighting fitness but coming back to soon, just to race at Silverstone, could see me ruining my chances of taking part in the season finale at Brands.
“This year has been full of ups and downs. However returning to the BTCC at Snetterton was for me a highlight and one that’s made more determined to have a full season in the series in 2017.”
