Under the weather Tom Ingram delighted with front row start

An under the weather Tom Ingram declared himself “over the moon” with second place in qualifying at Brands Hatch, after demonstrating front-running pace throughout the first day of the season.

The Speedworks Motorsport man topped both practice sessions in his Toyota Avensis, before coming out on the right side of an unpredictable qualifying session to complete the front row at the venue where he secured his maiden victory last season.

The 23-year-old’s efforts were even more impressive considering the fact that he is nursing a heavy cold and is losing his voice.

Assessing the dry to wet qualifying session, Ingram told TouringCarTimes: “When it’s like that it’s so unpredictable, it’s in the lap of the gods and you don’t really know what is going to happen.

“We’re over the moon with that, because it could have gone either way. I’m more than happy with that.”

Despite not feeling his best, Ingram wasn’t entertaining the idea that it would affect him on raceday. He said: “I wasn’t well yesterday either – I’m hot and cold all the time. But I’ll get a lemsip and an early night and I’ll be OK!”
