Aiden Moffat delighted to join BTCC winners list

Aiden Moffat admitted he was delighted to become one of the youngest winners in BTCC history after securing top spot in the opening race of the weekend at Donington Park.

The Laser Tools Racing driver had started the race from fourth on the grid but produced a measured performance on track to work his way through into the lead of the race before pulling away from the battling pack behind.

Despite concerns about a potential Safety Car as other drivers his trouble, Moffat was untroubled out front as he put the memory of a tough season opener at Brands Hatch firmly behind him to take his first career win.

“It’s absolutely brilliant – I’m almost lost for words,” he said. “We knew we had good pace in the car all weekend and that we could run at the front, but to be honest, my aim was just to try and finish on the podium.

“When I was behind Tom Ingram, I knew I had to get through because he was on the hard tyre. Once I got ahead, I just had to keep my head down and try to build a lead, which is what we did. When I saw cars off all over the place I was worried about the Safety Car being called out and was expecting it to appear but I’m glad it didn’t!”
