“Second place not an option” for Colin Turkington

Colin Turkington says he is taking the approach that “second place isn’t an option” going into the BTCC title decider this weekend at Brands Hatch.

The West Surrey Racing driver sits ten points behind rival Ash Sutton going into the season finale and what is set to be a straight fight between the pair for the crown – with Gordon Shedden and Tom Ingram only holding the slimmest of mathematical chances.

Whilst Turkington has two titles to his name and previous experience of the pressures of a going for the crown in the final meeting, Sutton finds himself in contention for the first time having fought back from a tough start to the season for Team BMR.

However, two-time champion Turkington insisted that he would be giving his all to overhaul Sutton in the standings and become only the eighth driver to win at least three titles.

“When it comes down to it, you have to have complete belief in your car, your ability and the team,” he said. “There isn’t one doubt in my mind about any of this. I know we can do this.

“The volume of work and resource that has gone into the BMW this season fills me with confidence and this can only improve our chances. When you take into account how competitive we were here at the Indy circuit in April, all the right signs are there.

“I want this more than ever and I feel I’ve worked harder than ever. We’ve busted ourselves day in and day out to be in this position and I can assure you there is only one result on my mind.

“Second place is not an option for me. I have two super quick team mates to bolster my charge and together we can make this happen for BMW.”
