Indie champion Tom Ingram: “It has been a stonking year”

An elated Tom Ingram heaped praise on his Speedworks Motorsport team after wrapping up the independent driver and teams’ trophies at Brands Hatch, as well as securing third place in the overall standings ahead of outgoing champion Gordon Shedden.

Another fast and consistent weekend in Kent saw Ingram net a second, sixth and fourth in his Toyota Avensis, meaning he beats Jack Goff to the independents’ crown by 39 points, with Speedworks beating Eurotech Racing to the teams’ title by 17 points.

Completing a hat-trick of achievements, Ingram was able to stay ahead of Team Dynamics’ Shedden in the final race to pip him to third in the standings by two points.

Speaking to TouringCarTimes, Ingram said: “It’s absolutely incredible. I just cannot believe how well this year has gone – it has been a stonking year. I couldn’t do it without these boys.

“I’m not going to work on a racing weekend, I’m going to work with my best mates. I’m absolutely loving it, I can’t say enough good things about these guys.

“We’ve just beaten Dynamics – we’ve done an absolutely incredible job. Every weekend we’ve come in and been right at the front. This little old taxi [the Avensis] has done it!”

With both Ingram and the team improving year-on-year, the 24-year-old is aiming for further glory for himself and Speedworks in 2018.

“We’ve just got to keep on growing it. By no means have we reached the potential, there is very much more to come,” he said.
