Tom Ingram punished for final race contact with Mat Jackson
Speedworks driver Toyota Tom Ingram ended the season with his first strike in the final race at Brands Hatch, after the stewards deemed the 24-year-old responsible for the incident with Motorbase’s Mat Jackson on lap two. The incident then saw Jackson hit West Surrey Racing’s Colin Turkington, ending the latter’s championship charge.
Ingram tapped the rear of Jackson’s Ford Focus ST heading into Graham Hill bend, forcing him out wide, with Jackson rejoining and hitting the rear-right of Turkington’s BMW, breaking the upright,
The newly-crowned 2017 independents’ champion Ingram was given a reprimand and a two-point endorsement on his racing licence, but retains his fourth place finishing position, which helped him claim third in the overall drivers’ standings.
Ingram was one of three drivers punished during the day, with Race 2 winner Colin Turkington given a £500 fine and a three-point endorsement, while Power Maxed Racing’s Senna Proctor was reprimanded for an incident with Ciceley Racing’s Adam Morgan in Race 1.
