Yokohama appointed as tyre supplier for the TCR UK series

The TCR UK Touring Car Championship has confirmed it has selected Japanese tyre manufacturer Yokohama as its supplier for its first season at the 2018 Autosport International Show in Birmingham.

The new-for-2018 series’ teams will race with Yokohama’s 18″ tyre on their TCR-specification cars. Yokohama tyres have been used on TCR-spec cars in the past two European Touring Car Cup seasons, and were also used in for the TCR Europe Trophy event at Adria Raceway last September.

Yokohama has been active in touring cars for many years, working with the World Touring Car Championship for the last 11 years, and also supplying the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship from 2009-2012 and in 2014.

“We are delighted to confirm Yokohama as our tyre partner ahead of our maiden season,” said TCR UK promoter Jonathan Ashman.

“Their heritage in World and British Touring Cars speaks for itself, so we know our competitors will be using the best tyres available. Also, because of the way TCR has spread across the world, we’ve always wanted to make it as easy as possible for our teams and drivers to compete in other TCR championships should they so wish. Having experience of such a strong tyre partner as Yokohama should stand them in good stead wherever they go.”

Mark Evans, head of motorsport for Yokohama HPT added: “The new TCR UK championship is set to be one of the most exciting series in British motorsport, and we’re incredibly proud that Yokohama is playing a pivotal role from the outset. The cars will be fitted with our proven motorsport products, which have delivered fantastic successes for many drivers around the world. Given their impressive levels of performance and reliability, we are confident that the tyres will help produce a first class racing spectacle.”
