Dunlop announce BTCC tyre choices

Dunlop has announced the breakdown of which tyres will be available to drivers across the majority of the BTCC’s 60th anniversary season.

As has been the case for a number of years, drivers will be forced to run two different compound of tyres at nine of the ten events, with the only exception being Thruxton where the high-speed, abrasive nature of the circuit dictates that teams must use the Sport Maxx Hard tyre in all three races.

This season, the choices remain similar to those seen over the course of the 2017 season, with the Sport Maxx Soft tyre being the option that must be used once at Brands Hatch Indy, Oulton Park, Knockhill and Brands Hatch GP, with the Sport Maxx Hard being the option tyre at Donington Park, Croft Rockingham and Silverstone.

Because of the change in format for the Snetterton weekend, which will feature a special Jubilee Celebration race that runs to the double the length of a regular race, a decision over which tyres will be used in the sixth meeting of the season will be taken after the traditional mid-season test at the Norfolk circuit.

In one change from last year, Dunlop’s BluResponse Wet tyre will now run a blue sidewall at the request of fans – making it easier for those watching trackside to see who is running wet rubber in changeable weather conditions where different drivers might elect to run different tyres.
