Jack Goff heads Eurotech 1-2 as Honda shine

Jack Goff led the way in the second BTCC free practice session of the weekend as the Honda teams came to the fore at Brands Hatch.

The Eurotech Racing driver hit the front in the opening stages of the session and would remain on top of the times right through to the finish with the quickest time of the day so far.

It would be a close run thing however, with team-mate Brett Smith impressing with the second best time as he lapped just 0.075secs behind in the sister FK2 Civic Type-R.

Dan Cammish was again right on the pace in the new Type-R and was within a tenth of the second of Goff with the third best time, with FP1 pace-setter Tom Ingram the highest non-Honda in fourth.

Matt Neal and Chris Smiley rounded out the top six, with the latter being able to post his first timed laps of the day after mechanical issues hampered his running in the morning.

Matt Simpson made it six Hondas in the top seven places, with James Cole’s Ford Focus and the two Power Maxed Racing Vauxhall Astras of Josh Cook and Senna Proctor rounding out the top ten.

Both Ash Sutton and Colin Turkington would be late into the session, with the pair eventually managing to complete 14 and 17 laps respectively in the final 20 minutes.

Although everyone was able to make it out on track, Tom Chilton suffered a rear subframe problem that will leave Motorbase working to make repairs ahead of qualifying later this afternoon.
