Colin Turkington expecting to be at the sharp end

Colin Turkington says he fully expects to be at the sharp end of the grid at Donington Park this weekend as he seeks to open his win account for the 2018 BTCC season.

Turkington took a podium finish for WSR in the opening race at Brands Hatch only for a mechanical issue ahead of race two to then hit his chances to adding to that tally.

Despite that, a solid recovery drive in race three ensured he heads into the second round of the year sitting sixth in the standings and within striking distance of the leaders.

The Northern Irishman has a strong record around Donington Park having won at the circuit last year and he said he was confident of picking up solid points to start moving up the pecking order.

“I’ve said before that success in this series requires a melting pot of many things and that also includes the holy grail ingredient – luck,” he said. “Looking back to Brands Hatch, I imagine most drivers felt there was the opportunity for better results, but personally I left satisfied with my performance and excited about the potential we have in the BMW.

“We were able to collect my first win of the year at Donington Park last year, and although we were far from the quickest car on the grid, we were challenging for podiums. Our tests pre-season were extremely valuable and should give us a good idea of what areas to hone in on during Saturday’s practice.

“Arriving with relatively little success ballast, I believe we can be at the sharp end once again. This weekend it’s all about scoring points and edging our way up that Championship leader board. I have full faith we will.”
