Luigi Ferrara nets second victory in red flagged second Imola race

Luigi Ferrara made it two from two victories in the second TCR Italy race at Imola that was red flagged due to a high-speed incident on the main straight between Gabriele Volpato and Palmen Kralev.

Alfa Romeo driver Ferrara started eighth due to the reversed grid but made his way up through the field early on.

Pit Lane Competizioni driver Andrea Larini had made his way into the lead at mid-stage of the race but was soon caught by Ferrara that made his way past in the penultimate corner of the lap, just as he had done several times earlier in the race on his way up through the field.

Ferrara claimed the lead with eight minutes left of the race and pulled up a gap of four seconds when the red flags came out.

Larini came under pressure from Enrico Bettera a couple of laps later, with the Audi RS 3 LMS driver making his way past Larini with a brave move on the outside of Turn 1. Bettera crossed the line in second, one second ahead of Larini who claimed third position.

SEAT Motorsport Italia driver Matteo Greco finished fourth ahead of the top Hyundai driver in the form of reigning champion Nicola Baldan who made a strong charge up through the field to finish fifth.

Portuguese driver Jose Rodrigues was involved in the top fight earlier in the race but dropped down to finish sixth ahead of Giovanni Altoè while MM Motorsport driver Massimiliano Mugelli rounded off the top eight, 14 seconds from race winner Ferrara.
