Sam Tordoff pleased with return to form
Sam Tordoff admitted he has been pleased with a return to form at Thruxton after picking up three solid results from the latest rounds of the BTCC season.
The Motorbase driver had showed strong pace at both Brands Hatch and Donington Park but headed into round three having failed to even score a top ten finish from the opening six races.
Qualifying sixth on the grid for race one, ironically his worst qualifying result of the year, Tordoff picked up a solid fourth place finish in the opening race and then repeated the feat in race two despite carrying additional success ballast on his Ford Focus.
A third top four finish of the weekend then followed in race three which allowed the Yorkshireman to move up to 14th in the championship standings ensuring he will run without ballast once again at Oulton Park as he seeks to break into the top ten.
“It’s been a fantastic weekend and we needed it,” he said. “We’ve been quick at Brands and Donington but we came away from those weekends with next to no points for various reasons. To come away with three fourth place finishes here is good, particularly as it’s a circuit I have always hated, and the only slight disappointment is that we didn’t get onto the podium.
“To be fair, we didn’t quite get it together in race one when we were running without ballast and the extra weight in races two and three made a difference. But we have good points on the board, which is the main thing and something to build on.
“With the season going as it has, we are still right in the mix and we’ll go to Oulton just outside the top ten which means no ballast again. We need to get some more strong rounds behind us to break into the top ten but our season is now underway.”
