Sam Tordoff confident of strong race pace

Sam Tordoff says he feels confident of a strong race day at Oulton Park after maintaining his impressive qualifying record ahead of the fourth round of the BTCC season.

The Motorbase driver was second quickest in the session to secure his place at the front row of the grid and continues to head the qualifying averages with four rounds of the season done.

Boosted by a strong haul of points last time out at Thruxton after a difficult start to the year, Tordoff will seek to make further progress up the standings on race day and said he was optimistic of a solid showing at the wheel of his Ford Focus.

“The car has been quick all season but we just had those two bad rounds at Brands Hatch and Donington,” he said. “It was good to get some decent results under our belt at Thruxton and qualifying has continued that here.

“I hoped we could push for pole but fair play to Matt. We knew the Honda is strong round here and he has shown really good pace today; that was a proper lap to take pole.

“We’ve gone quicker than pole last year and ended up in P2 so we’re in a good position for the races. I think our race pace will be strong tomorrow as well and it leaves me feeling confident. A lot will depend on how quick the BMW is off the line from row two, but we’re certainly in a good position to push for a podium.”
