Salvatore Tavano has “ambitious” plans for Misano Race 1

SEAT Motorsport Italia’s Salvatore Tavano will start on the front row alongside pole sitter Luigi Ferrara in the first race at Misano. The Cupra driver is trailing the Alfa Romeo Giulietta TCR by 4.5 points in the championship, as the V-Action driver was awarded a point for pole position.

“I was obviously going for pole position, that’s what you have to do in motor racing,” said Tavano to TouringCarTimes. “We had a few issues yesterday in free practice, we solved them quickly but we still lost some track time, which is not ideal. I was expecting us to be competitive today anyway.”

The former WTCC driver, who will be behind the wheel in the first race before leaving it to team-mate Matteo Greco for Race 2, thinks he can challenge the championship leader in the race.

“That’s the kind of ambition we need to have. We are not that far from Ferrara, so I can’t see why we shouldn’t push to win the race.”

Tavano may have missed a chance of taking pole position due to a full course yellow in qualifying just as he was doing his best lap, but the Sicily-based driver even refused to comment about it.

“I think in motor sport you have to be ambitious and believe in yourself, but at the same time there is no point talking about missed chances or whatever. I am looking ahead at the race, it’s going to be a good battle for sure.”
