Dusan Borkovic blasts “dirty” Josh Files after Race 2 contact

Target Competition driver Dusan Borkovic labelled Josh Files’ defensive tactics in the second race at the Hungaroring as “dirty” following contact between the pair which put Borkovic out of the race.

Borkovic, who remains one point behind series leader Mikel Azcona in the standings, was disputing fifth place with Files when the he hit the rear of the Honda Civic Type R FK8 under braking for Turn 12.

Files fell behind KCMG team-mate Attila Tassi but recovered to finish third at the end, while Borkovic suffered damage which sent the Serbian into retirement.

“I had a normal start, better than everyone around me but the Hondas were so quick off the line,” Borkovic told TouringCarTimes.

“But then after a couple of laps, I was much faster than him and he was driving very defensively. In my opinion, it was dirty defence because he went to the inside at Turn 12 and the when I went to the outside, he came over on me.

“So we touched and I had some damage to my car and I lost so many points because of this.”

Files countered by claiming that he had taken his regular line into the slow right hander, and that Borkovic was to blame.

He told TouringCarTimes: “I don’t really know what his mentality was in that race, because he is fighting for a championship and then he does that.

“Again, he used his car as a battering ram on my car and I’m lucky I got away with no damage.

“I took my normal line into the corner, and then he just hit my rear. He did it at the first corner on the first lap as well.”

Borkovic was spared any further disappointment due to Azcona receiving a drive-through penalty for exceeding track limits, but the Hyundai driver was left ruing what could have been.

And with fast tracks at Assen and Monza coming up in consecutive months, Borkovic feels the second race in Hungary was a missed opportunity.

“Okay, Azcona didn’t score any points either but this was a big missed opportunity for me to take the lead of the championship today. I definitely had the speed to finish third.

“I think the next few races will not be so good for us in the championship. I don’t know Assen but it’s pretty fast and normally that should not suit our car.
