Matt Neal: “That was for Wainy”

Matt Neal has dedicated a one-two to finish for Team Dynamics in the opening race of BTCC Finals Day to former team member Mark Wain, who passed away earlier this month.

Wain had been a key member of the Dynamics squad for a number of year before his death just ahead of the Silverstone race meeting, with his funeral having taken place on Monday.

A fine start to race day at Brands Hatch saw the two Dynamics-run Hondas take first and second on the road, with Dan Cammish securing his first victory in the series and Neal following home after battling his way past pole-man Brett Smith mid-way through the race.

It marked the first time that either Dynamics driver had taken to the podium since Wain’s death and led to an emotionally charged podium afterwards.

“Everyone in the paddock knows Mark as he was a key member of our team, and we really wanted to get a good result for him at Silverstone,” he said. “We weren’t able to do it there, so that one is for Wainy.

“It’s great that Dan has been able to get the win he has threatened all season and hopefully that is the cork released from the bottle as the first win is the hardest.”

Cammish for his part was delighted with his first win.

“What a great day,” he said. “I’m really proud of the whole team and the fact Matt was second shows the potential we had. To get that first win is great and there is no better place than in the sun at Brands Hatch.”
