Adam Morgan confident of solid Mercedes season

Adam Morgan says he is confident of a solid season at the wheel of his Ciceley Motorsport-run Mercedes after fighting back from a tough qualifying performance at Brands Hatch.

Morgan was outside the top 20 on the grid after failing to get the best out of his car during the opening qualifying session of the BTCC season, but made the most of a slick tyre call in race one to transform his fortunes on race day.

Fifth place in race one was followed by a solid podium finish in race two, whilst he brought his battle scarred car to the finish eleventh in race three despite multiple counts of contact in the midfield.

It allowed him snare a solid haul of points and fifth in the early season standings, with the promise of more to come as the campaign goes on.

“Saturday was really tough for us,” he admitted. “Over the winter we have worked on a new set-up and geometry on the car and qualifying was the first time we’d run it in the wet – and we were miles out. We worked on some things overnight and we got lucky with the tyres in race one, which totally changed our weekend.

“From there, we have been able to pick up three good points finishes and it’s mega to have secured a podium finish. We got a bit lucky in race three because I was battered about a lot and would probably have overheated with another lap, but I’m not going to complain too much.

“I’m confident we’ll have a strong car at Donington next time out but we haven’t tested there over the winter so we’ll have to see how we get on.”
