31-car entry confirmed for the 2019 TCR Europe series

31 cars have been confirmed for the second season of the TCR Europe Touring Car Series, which gets underway next weekend at the Hungaroring, the first of a seven-event calendar which ends at Monza in September.

Three of the top four drivers in the 2018 standings are now competing in the World Touring Car Cup this year, leaving Dusan Borkovic, who finished third in the championship last year after scoring three race victories, as the best-placed driver from last year to return, staying with the Italian Target Competition team in a Hyundai i30 N TCR.

The Hyundai is the most prevalent model on the grid, with ten Hyundai i30 N TCRs entered for the season.

Despite departing the World Touring Car Cup this year, the low-cost Peugeot Sport developed 308TCR is the second most popular model, with six of the French cars on the grid.

With five Cupras, three Volkswagens, two Audis, and three Honda Civics competing in the series, while also taking part in the European series for the first time is the new Renault Mégane RS TCR, which will be driven by Alex Morgan and John Filippi.

High profile entries include former GP2 front-runner Luca Filippi, who will compete with the 2018 WTCR drivers’ championship-winning BRC Racing Team in a Hyundai, and WTCC and WTCR stalwart Tom Coronel, who will compete with Boutsen Ginion Racing in the same Honda Civic TCR he raced last year, except in the first race, where he’ll be replaced by 2016 TCR Benelux champion Stéphane Lémeret.

WestCoast Racing also make their return to the WSC-promoted series after racing in the TCR UK championship and the STCC last year with two Volkswagen Golf GTI TCRs.
