Tom Coronel happy after first TCR Europe outing in Germany

Tom Coronel has said he’s happy with his first weekend in the TCR Europe series, after scoring a top-ten finish in Race 2, coming from 21st on the grid in his Boutsen Ginion Racing Honda Civic TCR.

The Dutchman had a technical issue in qualifying with the steering wheel, which left him at the back of the grid for both races, but in both races he surged forward, finishing Race 1 in 11th, and Race 2 in tenth position.

Most of Coronel’s progress was made during the first two laps, and then he continued on to tenth, finishing behind the Comtoyou Racing Audi of Gilles Magnus, the team with which he races in WTCR.

“There were some good fights,” said Coronel to TouringCarTimes.

“When they were fighting, I could follow, but once they stopped fighting, they were easily driving away.

“The first few laps were nice, I didn’t have any difficulties, I didn’t have any touches or stupid things.

“The driving was good, and the consistency. It was just the speed where we were struggling. We just need to be less unlucky in qualifying, as then we’d be fighting for the top five. Next is Spa, which should be good for us – I know the track very well.”
