Mat’o Homola best of the Hyundais at tough Spa-Francorchamps

Mat’o Homola said he was happy with seventh after a tough first race at Spa-Francorchamps, with the Target Competition driver finishing as the best-placed Hyundai driver in the race.

The Slovakian picked up key points in his championship challenge, two weeks’ after a disastrous race meeting at the Hockenheimring in Germany.

“I had a very good start, I was P5 when the safety car came out, but behind me was Potty and the Cupras, and when he tried to pass me there was no discussion,” said Homola to TouringCarTimes.

“The Cupras were fast as well. (Davit) Kajaia was really quick, and we were struggling with the top speed and the tyre degradation with the weight we’re carrying. I think seventh place that was the best we could do.”

Homola fought to keep back the Cupra TCR of Stian Paulsen, with whom Homola ran into trouble last time out, with the Norwegian trying twice to get around Homola’s i30 N TCR at Les Combes.

“We had a fair fight with Stian at the end, much better than Hockenheim – so good points for me after the disaster. I start P4 tomorrow, so let’s see what we can do in the race.”
