Lewis Kent secures pole position at Donington Park

Essex & Kent Motorsport driver Lewis Kent has claimed pole position for the second round of the 2019 TCR UK Touring Car Championship at Donington Park, outqualifying newcomer Max Coates’ Cupra TCR DSG by just 0.049 seconds.

Kent’s best time of 1:36.669 places the Hyundai driver, who missed the first round of the season at Oulton Park due to a broken engine, on pole ahead of Coates, who this weekend has taken over the DAT Racing Cupra TCR DSG raced by Guy Colclough in the opening round.

Darelle Wilson, making his TCR UK championship return this weekend, qualified his Vauxhall Astra TCR in third, ahead of James Turkington, who this weekend has switched from his Ciceley Motorsport-run SEAT León Supercopa, to Maximum Motorsport’s Cupra TCR.

Henry Neal was the best of the Touring Car Trophy class runners in fifth in the NGTC-specification Honda Civic FK2 run by Team Dynamics, with Mark Wakefield sixth on his TCR debut, racing in the Cupra TCR run by Maximum Motorsport, which was used by Carl Swift in the opening round.

Fox Motorsport’s Nick Halstead was seventh in his Honda Civic FK2 TCR, with Alex Day’s HMS Racing Audi A4 BTCC completing the top eight.

Race 1 is scheduled for 11:10 BST.
