Dan Lloyd leads Honda 1-2 in disrupted second practice at Oschersleben
Dan Lloyd was fastest of all in the second practice session at Oschersleben, which was twice red-flagged following incidents, and almost broke Gianni Morbidelli’s qualifying lap record from 2017.
The field had barely had time to set a lap before the red flags were out when the Zengo Motorsport Cupra TCR of Tamas Tenke crashed out at Turn 14, with Santiago Urrutia at this point on top of the time sheets in his WRT Audi RS 3 LMS.
The session resumed some 20 minutes later after an extended recovery, with 17 minutes set for the remainder of the session.
The Target Competition Hyundai i30 N TCR of Andreas Bäckman briefly jumped to the top of the time sheets, before Alex Morgan then went fastest with ten minutes to go in his Wolf-Power Racing Cupra TCR.
There were more spins, with Martin Ryba in the #17 Brutal Fish Racing Team Honda spinning off, just as his team-mate Dan Lloyd went fastest, with Tom Coronel also leaping up to second in his Boutsen Ginion Racing Honda Civic TCR.
The two Audis had looked set to improve in the final moments, but then ran into trouble, with first Comtoyou Racing’s Gilles Magnus running wide, before WRT’s Santiago Urrutia stopped his RS 3 LMS at Turn 14, bringing out the red flag with two minutes to go, with the session not resuming.
This left Lloyd on top ahead of Coronel, with Morgan third. Andreas Bäckman was the best of the Hyundais in fourth, with Gilles Magnus’ Audi fifth.
Dominik Baumann, taking over the #58 Target Competition Hyundai from Dusan Borkovic for the remainder of the season was sixth, ahead of points leader and Target team-mate Josh Files, who was struggling with a car with a slipped subframe.
Mat’o Homola was eighth in his Target Competition Hyundai, with Santiago Urrutia’s WRT Audi and the WestCoast Racing Volkswagen of Gianni Morbidelli completing the top ten.
Qualifying is next and takes place at 09:50 CEST tomorrow morning.
