Thruxton secures two dates on 2021 calendar

Thruxton will once again play host to two rounds of the British Touring Car Championship in 2021 after next seasons calendar was released by series organisers TOCA.

The Hampshire circuit had hosted two rounds last year after the demise of Rockingham, but reverted to a single meeting again this year as Silverstone was instead handed two dates – although one of those has now been canned as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The championship will once again revert to a 30 race, ten round schedule for 2021 with the season starting and ending at Brands Hatch.

Donington Park, Thruxton, Oulton Park and Croft retain their traditional slots before the summer break before the action resumes at Snetterton, before the trip to Scotland for the Knockhill race weekend.

Thruxton’s second meeting is they followed by the penultimate round of the year on Silverstone’s National layout – meaning no place for the International layout that was due to debut this season.

“Well, this is certainly a new first for the BTCC – issuing the following year’s calendar before the current season has even begun, but I’m sure everyone will agree that it’s nice to see some ‘normality’ returning to the schedule,” BTCC chief executive Alan Gow said.

“Having said that, with our first 2020 event now less than two weeks away at Donington Park, there is phenomenal enthusiasm for getting this season underway amongst our teams, supporters and partners.”
