The Mazda3 TCR programme has been cancelled

Mazda has confirmed that the development of the new Mazda3 TCR model has been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“Given the recent conditions brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) has elected to cancel the development program for the Mazda3 TCR car,” said Emily Taylor, Mazda USA’s Director, Communications & Experiential Marketing, to Grassroots Motorsport.

“We thank all our fans and partners for their continued support for Mazda Motorsports.”

The car was unveiled in October last year and it was supposed to have made its debut during the Daytona endurance race of the 2020 IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge earlier this year.

The introduction of the car hit its first bump at the end of 2019 following the closure of Long Road Racing.
