Dan Cammish keen to make up lost ground

Dan Cammish says he hopes to make up lost ground in the BTCC title race when the series heads to Oulton Park this weekend for the third round of the season.

The Honda driver took his second win of the campaign in the opening race of the weekend at Brands Hatch but then failed to score in the following two races – with power steering problems in race two being followed by overheating trouble in race three.

That misfortune saw Cammish drop down to fifth in the standings and means he now trails defending champion Colin Turkington by 34 points, with his goal at Oulton Park being to tru and close the gap to the BMW man out front.

“Brands was frustrating for me after such a good start to the day, taking the race one win,” he said. “A minor technical gremlin in the second saw me having to limp round after a strong showing and in the third I got a radiator full of grass and dirt taking avoiding action on the opening lap, causing further technical issues.

“I was on the podium at Oulton twice last year, so that will be my target again, but there are some quick guys in some quick cars this year, so I’ll have my work cut out! My goal is to take as many points off Colin as I can and try and bring home some more silverware.”
