Andreas Bäckman withdraws from first Monza race due to injury

Andreas Bäckman has announced that he will withdraw from the first TCR Europe series race at Monza due to a hand injury sustained in the previous round at Zolder.

“I’m struggling with pain in my left hand from the accidents in Zolder and I have decided to not race in today’s Race 1,” said Bäckman.

The Swedish driver had qualified 23rd and last for the races, lapping the Italian circuit five seconds slower than pole sitter Mehdi Bennani.

Bäckman crashed twice in the races at Zolder and has dropped down to 12th position in the standings.
