Mikel Azcona dominates final TCR Europe qualifying of 2020

Mikel Azcona dominated the final TCR Europe series qualifying session of 2020 at Jarama to claim pole position by close to seven tenths of a second over Peugeot duo Teddy and Jimmy Clairet.

The positions behind Azcona were however close, with positions two to seven covered within less than two tenths of a second.

Mat’o Homola was the fastest Hyundai driver in fourth position, 0.806 seconds from pole.

Mehdi Bennani continued his strong form from the practice sessions and was fastest of the title contenders in fifth position for Comtoyou Racing, 30 thousands of a second behind Homola.

Julien Briché put his Peugeot 308TCR in sixth position on the grid ahead of Target Competition driver Andreas Bäckman.

Audi RS 3 LMS driver Nicolas Baert, who is placed fourth overall, was eighth quickest ahead of Jessica Bäckman.

Daniel Nagy was tenth fastest for BRC Racing Team and will start the second race from the reversed grid pole position.

John Filippi, who is placed third overall, finished eleventh in Q2 ahead of Sami Taoufik.

Championship leader Mike Halder’s woes continued, failing to make it to the Q2 session. The Honda driver finished 15th in Q1 and was close to one second from Azcona’s top time.

Things were even worse for Brutal Fish Racing Team driver Dan Lloyd who could only manage 22nd.

The first race of the season finale weekend starts at 11:20 CET tomorrow.
