Colin Turkington: “It’s a marathon, not a sprint”
Colin Turkington has predicted an all action weekend as the British touring car championship heads for brands Hatch this weekend for the third round of the season.
The West Surrey racing driver bounced back to form last time and Snetterton where he secured his first victory of the season and now sits third in the championship standings as a result.
Turkington has a number of strong results around the short Brands Hatch Indy circuit in the past and will look to try and add to his win tally despite the additional success ballast on his BMW 330i M Sport.
However the multiple champion admitted it wouldn’t be easy weekend given the number of cars preparing to do battle around the shortest circuit on the calendar.
“Brands Hatch is all-action,” he said. “Like Snetterton, there are some fearsome corners, like Paddock Hill Bend and the fast left-right at Surtees. The rest of the lap is pretty slow speed, but not easy to get right. Car set-up is critical as you need a good change of direction for a good run off Graham Hill and Clearways.
“Qualifying will be congested so there’s a lot to think about. You can have the best car and still not thread traffic well and be outside the top 15. We just need to remember it’s a marathon, not a sprint and keep our noses clean.
“Scoring points is always my target, chipping away at the big picture and as the weekends roll through, find some gains in every department. I think we need to keep our heads down, concentrate on our car, and hunt out more performance. This series never stands still!”
