Stefano Coletti, Oliver Webb pace Aragon practice sessions

Stefano Coletti and Oliver Webb topped the times in the two free practice sessions in preparation for the second round of the new PURE ETCR season at Motorland Aragon.

The Romeo Ferraris-developed Alfa Romeo Giulia proved to be the car to beat across the two session, with Coletti fastest amongst the drivers in Pool A and Webb then heading the Pool B runners with a lap that would prove to be the quickest of the day so far.

Coletti – who will line up against Augusto Farfus and Mikel Azcona in Round 1 later today – set a time of 1:11.704 during the opening session to leave him comfortably clear of Azcona; the current points leader nearly four tenths of a second behind at the wheel of his Cupra.

Rodrigo Baptista was third fastest in the second of the Alfa Romeos with Farfus in fourth being the last driver to lap within a second of the quickest time.

Cupra’s Jordi Gené and Hyundai’s Tom Chilton then rounded out the six Pool A runners. Chilton will start his Round 1 battle against Baptista and Gené from the inside line having found himself on the less favourable outside line for the Vallelunga season opener.

The Pool B times would prove to be quicker when the second session kicked off, with John Filippi the only driver who didn’t dip below Coletti’s fastest lap.

Webb would end up with the benchmark time of 1:11.097 to edge out Jean-Karl Vernay, with the pair split by less than a tenth of a second.

Mattias Ekström was third quickest in his Cupra ahead of Daniel Nagy, with Luca Fillipi in the second Alfa Romeo going fifth fastest.

The Pool B draw for Round 1 will see Vernay on the inside line up against Ekström and Nagy, with John Filippi then having the inside line against Luca Filippi and Webb.
