Mikel Azcona, Augusto Farfus and Tom Chilton take pool victories at Motorland
Mikel Azcona, Augusto Farfus and Tom Chilton claimed the victories in the PURE ETCR Pool A Round 2 battles at Motorland Aragon on Saturday morning.
Rodrigo Baptista took an early lead at the wheel of the Alfa Romeo Giulia of Romeo Ferraris, but Azcona, driving the Cupra e-Racer, overtook the Brazilian for the lead on the first lap, with the Spaniard winning by 0.309 seconds.
Next battle saw Cupra driver Jordi Gené and Hyundai driver Augusto Farfus going head-to-head. Farfus took the lead at the start, with Gené a close second.
Gené overtook Fartus on lap three, but went wide, losing the position again. At the chequered flag, the Brazilian took the victory, seven-tenths ahead of the Spaniard.
The third duel of the Pool A Round 2 involved Stefano Coletti of Romeo Ferraris and Tom Chilton, driving the Hyundai Veloster N ETCR.
Coletti took the lead ahead of Chilton, with the Briton running into the back of the Alfa during the first lap. The Italian braked late on lap four, with Chilton overtaking. But Coletti was able to recover the position a few corners later.
Chilton still had the last word, overtaking Coletti on the last lap to take the pool battle victory, winning by 0.437 seconds.
The ETCR will be back on track at 14:50 CEST for the Pool B Round 2 battles.
