Augusto Farfus wins incident-packed Super Final A in Spain

Hyundai driver Augusto Farfus took a controversial victory in the PURE ETCR Super Final A at Motorland Aragón on Sunday morning after a hard battle with Cupra driver Mikel Azcona. The battle ended with the Spaniard out of the race and the Brazilian under investigation

The Round 4 Super Final A started with Azcona on the pole position, with Farfus sharing the front row.

At the start Azcona took the lead, followed by Farfus and Zengo Motorsport X Cupra’s Jordi Gené, who overtook Romeo Ferraris M1RA’s Rodrigo Baptista for third on the first lap.

Farfus soon overtook Azcona for the lead at the end of the main straight, with Azcona making use of the Power Up to return the favour a lap later.

Farfus attacked Azcona on lap four, with the Spaniard defending successfully.

Farfus tried the inside again a corner later, pushing Azcona into the gravel, resulting in a retirement for the Cupra driver. The incident was put under investigation by the stewards.

Romeo Ferraris M1RA driver Stefano Coletti then overtook Gené for second place, with the Alfa Romeo driver also attacking Farfus for the lead on lap six.

But Coletti braked too late, locking up his tyres and Farfus reclaimed the lead.

This enabled Gené to overtake Coletti, who defended, resulting in a collision with the Spaniard – ending his race in the gravel trap. The incident between both was also put under investigation by the stewards.

Gené, with a damaged front bumper, lost out to Baptista on the last lap and just managed to fend off Hyundai Motorsport N’s Tom Chilton to finish third.

At the chequered flag Farfus took the victory, followed by Baptista and Gené, with Chilton closing the classification of the finishing cars.

The Round 4 Super Final B is scheduled for 16:00 CEST.
