Lightweight Colin Turkington eager to take advantage

Colin Turkington says he is eager to take advantage of a lack of success ballast when the BTCC heads for Knockhill this weekend.

The West Surrey Racing driver has slipped to ninth in the standings after difficult weekends at both Brands Hatch and Oulton Park.

Contact on track over the course of both weekends have restricted the Northern Irishman to just one top ten finish in the last six races.

The only saving grace is that he now heads to Knockhill and a circuit where rear-wheel drive cars have traditionally been strong, carrying noticeably less ballast that usual – leaving Turkington well placed to get his championship campaign back on track.

”I go to Knockhill with less success ballast than I can ever remember,” he said. “It’s key I exploit this and take advantage of the championship position I’ve found myself in.

“We’ve seen before with this series how you can play your way back into contention, and this is the script we must aim to follow. It’s certainly not going to be easy, the cars are so evenly matched on lap time this season, but we will bounce back from this setback.

“Setbacks can easily lead to self doubt so it’s important we focus on our strengths and keep the faith in our systems. There are still 18 races to run and that’s a lot of action incoming over the next couple of months!”
