Franco Girolami: “I’m proud of my work this season”

PSS Racing Team’s Franco Girolami is satisfied with his first full TCR Europe season after becoming the runner-up behind title rival Mikel Azcona.

The Argentinean started the last round of the season with a points’ deficit against Volcano Motorsport driver Azcona. A water pump belt issue prevented the PSS Racing Team driver from setting up a valid lap time in the qualifying session, starting from the back of the grid and, ultimately, losing the championship to Azcona.

“I’m proud of my work this season and this weekend,” Girolami told TouringCarTimes.

“We had the 60 kilos and, at first, with new tyres, you don’t feel them so much but, as the tyres wear out, you can feel them.”

“In the race we made some good progression and we reached 15th place, but I had a collision with Evgenii Leonov (Volcano Motorsport) and, although I could have fought for it, I thought it wasn’t worth the risk.”

Girolami will start Race 2 from the back of the grid again and the Honda driver is hoping to make more progress: “I hope we can have a good day and finish the season well. It has been a good year for us.”

The start of the last race of the 2021 TCR Europe season at Barcelona is scheduled for 13:45 CEST.
