Mattias Ekström scores Time Trial B pole position

Cupra X Zengo Motorsport driver Mattias Ekström achieved the pole position for Sunday’s Super Final B behind the wheel of his Cupra e-Racer.

Ekström was the first driver on the track with the Cupra, completing his lap in a time of 1:26.187.

Philipp Eng made the most of an understeering Alfa Romeo Giulia by Romeo Ferraris to set a purple second sector on his way to second place, 0.091 seconds behind the Swede.

Jean-Karl Vernay was next with the Hyundai Veloster N ETCR, completing an untidy lap to finish in third place, 0.491 seconds off the pace. His team-mate Tom Chilton was the last driver on the track, finishing his lap 0.572 seconds behind the Swede.

Roberto Baptista qualified in fourth place, 0.867 seconds behind Ekström. Jordi Gené made a couple of mistakes during his lap and was 1.097 seconds slower than Ekström.

“The time trial is a mega-challenging session for the drivers and the top position goes to the driver making less mistakes, and in this case it was Mattias,” said Cupra’s team manager Xavi Serra.

“The weekend is long, tomorrow we have a big race left, so we keep our feet in the ground and see how it goes tomorrow,” said Ekström.

The ETCR Super Final A is scheduled for 14:20 CEST on Sunday afternoon.
