Will Brown claims provisional Bathurst pole as Jamie Whincup misses shootout

Will Brown has claimed the provisional pole for the Bathurst 1000 race while Jamie Whincup missed the cut for the top ten shootout.

Erebus Motorsport’s Brown was fastest by just 0.0229 seconds ahead of DJR driver Anton De Pasquale.

Newly crowned TCR Australia champion Chaz Mostert made it two Holdens in the top three, just 0.0781 seconds from pole for Walkinshaw Andretti United.

Tim Slade and Cameron Waters occupied positions four and five while Brodie Kostecki took a strong sixth place finish.

Newly crowned champion Shane van Gisbergen could only manage seventh position ahead of Will Davison, three and four tenths of a second from Brown respectively.

Van Gisbergen’s Triple Eight Race Engineering team-mate Wincup finished eleventh, missing the top ten shootout by a mere 0.0225 seconds.

The top ten shootout starts at 17:05 local time/07:05 CET.
