Stephen Jelley hits the front in second practice

Stephen Jelley proved to be the class of the field in the second free practice session ahead of the Brands Hatch BTCC meeting.

Jelley headed ten cars that dipped below the qualifying lap record in the session as the new hybrid powered cars continue to impress, with the WSR driver leaving it late in the session to secure his place at the top of the times.

A lap of 47.654s saw Jelley beat Michael Crees to top spot with the Power Maxed Racing driver having looked good to secure a surprise P1 before being left to settle for second.

Tom Ingram took third spot to maintain his strong start to the weekend in the EXCELR8 Hyundai with Josh Cook taking fourth spot – leaving four different cars inside the top four positions.

Jake Hill and George Gamble followed behind in their BMWs, with Gordon Shedden and Colin Turkington rounding out the top eight.

Qualifying is scheduled for 15:50 and will mark the first time that the new hybrid rules have been in place, with the top ten in the standings all having limited hybrid usage on each lap.

Those outside the top ten will have a full 15 seconds of hybrid available, with the number reduced to ten seconds a lap for race day.
