Adrien Tambay wins Pool Furious final and is King of the Weekend in Hungary

Cupra EKS driver Adrien Tambay claimed a strong victory in the Pool Furious final at the Hungaroring, with the Frenchman becoming King of the Weekend after scoring the most points in total.

Tambay made a strong start, stealing the top spot from Romeo Ferraris’ Bruno Spengler.

Hyundai Motorsport N driver Jean-Karl Vernay was next to attack Spengler on the main straight on lap two, but had to instead defend from Blomqvist.

Blomqvist used his power-up to overtake Vernay on the main straight on lap three, then repeating the move a lap later to climb up to second place ahead of Spengler.

Luca Filippi also took the opportunity to overtake Vernay at Turn 2 on lap four, but the duo made contact shortly after and were left stranded on the track.

Tambay claimed the Pool Furious victory, with Blomqvist completing a 1-2 for Cupra EKS.

Spengler finished in third place and Michelisz was fourth, while Vernay and Filippi were two laps behind.

“It’s an amazing feeling, I’m very happy with the pace of the Cupra and the work the team has done all the weekend,” said Tambay after the race.

Tambay scored a total of 90 points, ten more than fellow Cupra driver Mattias Ekström and 12 over Romeo Ferraris’ Maxime Martin.

After the races at the Hungaroring, Tambay leads the standings on 182 points, two ahead of Ekström and 43 over Hyundai’s Mikel Azcona.

The next round of the 2022 FIA ETCR season takes place at Jarama on June 18-19th.
