No further action on Spengler and Vernay incident

The stewards have issued a “no further action” ruling regarding the last-lap incident involving Romeo Ferraris driver Bruno Spengler and Hyundai Motorsport N’s Jean-Karl Vernay in the Pool Furious semi final 1.

The pair had fought for the race lead throughout the race, with Vernay getting ahead on lap two. Spengler waited for his opportunity on the last lap, taking a stab at Turn 1, putting his Giulia ETCR on the inside of Vernay’s Veloster N ETCR.

The pair collided, with Vernay spinning off the track. He eventually managed to recover, limping back to the chequered flag with a bent steering column.

The stewards, after examining the evidence, ruled that Spengler hadn’t caused a collision.

Spengler has been the highest-scoring driver of the weekend so far ahed of the Pool Furious final at 18:35 CEST on Sunday evening.

“I saw a little space at Turn 2, he closed the door and then opened it, so I went for the gap,” Spengler said after the race. “Let’s keep on pushing until the final now.”
