Jordi Gené and Norbert Michelisz win Pool Fast quarter finals at Jarama

Cupra driver Jordi Gené and Hyundai’s Norbert Michelisz shared the Pool Fast quarter final victories at Jarama.

Cupra EKS’ Jordi Gené and Adrien Tambay, and Romeo Ferraris’ Bruno Spengler lined up for the Pool Fast quarter final 1, over a four-lap racing distance.

Gené got ahead at the start, with Spengler settling in second place, before losing the position to Tambay. The positions remained stable, with the Cupras opening a discrete gap to the Giulia ETCR.

Tambay pressured his team-mate during lap three, with the Frenchman lining-up an overtake maneouvre at the main straight.

Gené defended the inside line, with Tambay looking for a gap for the whole final lap, but unable to find a way past his team-mate, despite both coming into contact several times during the lap.

The Spaniard claimed his first victory in the ETCR, with Tambay right under his rear bumper, 0.394 seconds behind. Spengler was third, 1.284 seconds behind the winner.

Hyundai Motorsport N’s Norbert Michelisz and Jean-Karl Vernay, and Romeo Ferraris’ Luca Filippi were next for the quarter final 2.

At the start, Michelisz and Filippi came side-by-side, with the Hungarian taking the lead ahead of the Italian. Vernay came on the outside, overtaking the Giulia ETCR for second place.

Filippi came again at the inside to recover second place, as Michelisz opened a discrete gap. The Romeo Ferraris driver locked up, overcooking his tyres, but still able to stay ahead of Vernay.

The positions remained stable but, on the final lap, Filippi overcooked the braking down to Bugatti, spinning on the track and limping back to the pits. Michelisz won at the line, ahead of Vernay and with Filippi in third, a lap behind.

After the Pool Fast quarter finals, Jordi Gené leads his group with 35 points, eight ahead of Tambay and 14 over Michelisz.

The ETCR returns to the track for the Pool Furious quarter finals at 18:30 CEST.
