Series returnees boost Donington Park grid

The TCR UK grid for the upcoming meeting at Donington Park has been boosted by the addition of two series returnees, with Paul Sheard Racing and Darron Lewis both rejoining the field.

Paul Sheard Racing will run Dan Lloyd’s 2018 title-winning Volkswagen Golf GTi TCR for George Heler as he makes his debut in the series, with his previous experience of TCR machinery coming in the British Endurance Championship.

It marks the first appearance for the team in the series since 2019.

“After the recent class-winning drive from George in the British Endurance Championship, we wanted to see how both he as a driver, and we as a team, would fair in TCR UK and it made sense to enter the championship at a circuit we know well,” engineer Peppe Planeta said.

“We’re using the 2018 Daniel Lloyd title-winning car and for us, we feel this is a great way for the car to return to the championship, which itself has grown so much since we last took part.”

Lewis meanwhile will be appearing in the series in TCR machinery for the first time in an Audi RS 3 LMS having previously raced NGTC-spec machinery in what was previously known as the Touring Car Trophy.

“I took part in the previous versions of the TCR UK Championship both in 2019 and again in 2021,” he said. “However, reliability issues with the cars I drove meant I was unable to be consistent and competitive. Having purchased the Audi earlier this year, I’m now looking for bigger and better things.

“When the chance to be part of a championship that has grown so much in the last twelve months presented itself, the opportunity was too good to miss. Donington Park will be a learning curve for me, as it will be my first outing in the new car but I’m really looking forward to getting back on the grid and racing again.”
