Tavano loses points lead to penalty ahead of TCR Italy finale

The TCR Italy title fight has been turned on its head hours before the title-deciding race as the point lead has changed hands.

Target Competition’s Niels Langeveld won race one of the weekend on Saturday from pole to close in on championship leader Salvatore Tavano in the title race. They went to bed on Saturday night 14 points apart, and with 40 available to secore in Sunday’s race.

However overnight the stewards determined Tavano was guilty for contact that was made between the pair in the first race, and a 10-second penalty dropped Tavano from fourth to 14th in the race results.

As a result he only picks up three points from Saturday now, and has now dropped to 10 points behind Langeveld ahead of the title decider.

Langeveled will be starting eighth on the reversed grid, while Tavano starts 11th.
