Area Motorsport to run revised line-up for Snetterton finale

Area Motorsport has announced that it will field a revised line-up for the final rounds of the TCR UK Championship season this weekend at Snetterton.

The team will take on the two Hyundais of Alex Ley and Andy Wilmot for the two races that will determine the 2022 champion, whilst title contender Bruce Winfield will switch into an i30 N TCR having run in a Cupra TCR since making his debut in the series.

Winfield tested the ex-Target Competition car last month in Italy with a view to switching into the Hyundai for 2023 but has instead elected to bring forward his debut in the car, whilst Wilmot has taken the decision to continue in his i30 despite acquiring a Honda Civic Type R from Brutal Fish Racing.

The addition of Ley and Wilmost, as well as Winfield’s change of car, means Area will field four Hyundais in the Snetterton finale with Adam Shepherd having joined the team earlier in the year.

“Area Motorsport are pleased to announce that Alex Ley and Andrew Wilmot will join us for the final round of 2022,” team boss Rob Baker said. “We’re all looking forward to them joining our team and helping them move forward wherever possible. Having worked with Alex already this year we know he’s a fantastic young talent which he’s proven this year through his multiple race wins.

“Andy has had some bad luck through no fault of his own this year and we’re looking forward to working with him at the last round and helping him in every way we can. He’s displayed a great attitude even when things haven’t gone his way and it’s exactly what we like to see from our drivers.”
