Borković and Bargwanna confirmed for Race 2 at Spa
Dušan Borković and Ben Bargwanna have been confirmed as taking part in today’s TCR World Tour and TCR Europe race at Spa-Francorchamps following their collision in Race 1 on Saturday.
The pair came together at La Source on the second lap, ending both of their races and requiring Borković to go to the track’s medical centre and then hospital. He had sprained his hand in the incident, and as he did not communicate with his Target Competition team while at hospital it was not immediately clear if the injury was so severe to rule him out of Sunday’s race.
TouringCarTimes spoke to the team on Sunday morning and got confirmation that Borković will be making the start. He will be doing so from 17th place, having received a three-place grid penalty for the Bargwanna clash.
Team Clairet Sport was also in a position of uncertainty after the race on Saturday as they were not sure the extent of repairs they needed to make to get Bargwanna’s Peugeot 308TCR onto the grid for Race 2.
But when they returned to the paddock the next morning they knew they would be racing, and Bargwanna’s father Jason – winner of the Bathurst 1000 race in 2000 – told TouringCarTimes about what needed fixing from the clash.
“It was mostly bodywork damage and front shock uprights,” he said. “Fortunately the team had all the parts needed, and we finished repairing last night at 9pm. We did a good job, and we’re back ready to race!”
