Tom Ingram insists qualifying ‘good, but not quite good enough’

Tom Ingram insisted he was pleased with third on the grid for the BTCC finale at Brands Hatch even though it ‘wasn’t quite good enough’ to put him ahead of title rival Ash Sutton.

Sutton moved a point closer to a fourth title as he secured a sixth pole position of the campaign, giving the NAPA Racing squad nine out of ten for the season.

Ingram had to settle for third in his Bristol Street Motors with EXCELR8-run Hyundai and he said he felt the result of the session was reflective of the way the 2023 campaign had panned out as a while.

“It’s always maximum attack at Brands GP and the car really comes alive when you head out the back of the circuit,” he said. “We didn’t quite have the pace to match Ash today even though the car felt quite good, and that kind of sums up the season – it wasn’t bad, but not quite good enough.

“It shows what a good job NAPA have done to score nine poles this season when the championship is so close but we’re in a position to fight.

“We’ll go on the attack and see where we end up.”
