Yann Ehrlacher: “We are aiming for the podium”
Yann Ehrlacher was the fastest Lynk & Co Cyan Racing driver in both practice sessions at the Guia street circuit in Macau, with the Frenchman looking for a podium to secure his first FIA TCR World Tour title.
“It was good actually, it’s always nice to see you keep performing in Macau,” Ehrlacher told TouringCarTimes.
“You need to get into the rhythm, especially with a bit of pressure on our shoulders this weekend.
“I wanted to take no risks but, at the end of the day, I don’t know how to drive with no risks so, at the end of the day, I went all in, like I usually do, it’s how I feel most comfortable.”
The qualifying session will be key at a circuit with little overtaking opportunities and Ehrlacher has a clear target.
“The big day is tomorrow, to be honest,” said the Cyan Racing driver.
“I’m looking forward to the qualifying and being in the top ten, that’s the most important thing, so we will see.”
Ehrlacher is in a title fight with Thed Björk for the drivers’ crown, which would be the third touring car world title for the Frenchman after winning the FIA WTCR in 2020 and 2021. Despite the having a 34-point lead, the Frenchman refuses to remain conservative.
“I’ve never won in Macau, so yes, I would like to fight for the victory,” the 29-year old said.
“It looks like the Hyundai are strong, they set the top speed in sector one and the last sector, so I think it’s going to be tough to be on pole.
“But I think we can get a spot on the podium and that’s what I’m aiming for.”
