Ash Sutton: “To be a five-time champion is phenomenal”

Ash Sutton has shared his delight after securing an unassailable lead at the top of the British Touring Car Championship standings, clinching him a record-breaking fifth Drivers’ title.

Despite there still being five races left to run in the 2026 season, the Alliance Racing driver is now out of touch of his rivals and will be officially crowned champion at Brands Hatch in two weeks’ time.

Sutton arrived at Silverstone with a commanding 115-point lead and after finishing on the fringes of the top ten in race one, the Ford Focus Titanium driver wrapped things up with a charging drive to victory in race two.

“I can agree with everyone now,” said Sutton. “To be standing here with five BTCC titles from 11 seasons is phenomenal and not a bad percentage of success at all.

“With the soft tyre and a full allocation of boost I wanted to get it done in true Ash style. That was full attack mode and even when I got to the front I just kept on pushing.

“I’m still a little lost for words if I’m honest. To have the family here with me is special and the team is a family in itself. They do so much to allow me to do what I love and for that I’m forever thankful.”
