Tom Ingram splashes to victory in Silverstone finale
Tom Ingram produced a masterful drive in wet conditions to claim his third win of the season in the British Touring Car Championship at Silverstone.
On what proved to be a captivating damp reverse grid finale, the two-time champion put his recent run of bad luck behind to triumph ahead of now five-time champion Ash Sutton and race one winner Aiden Moffat.
Ingram started the race from second place however it was the CPRL Mercedes of Dan Rowbottom that made the best launch as he climbed from fifth on the grid to lead at the end of the first lap.
Pole sitter Moffat recovered from a sluggish opening lap to fight his way back onto the rear of Rowbottom, before quickly then dispatching him under brakes at Brooklands.
With a clear road ahead of him, Moffat attempted to streak clear however Ingram soon closed in and at mid-distance, the EXCELR8 driver moved to the head of the field. From there, he didn’t look back and romped to victory.
Despite only having a handful of laps of TOCA Turbo Boost, Sutton once again starred as he scythed his way fro 12th on the grid to finish in second, having produced a sublime late move at Luffield.
Three-time champion Gordon Shedden found himself in the thick of the action as he marched his way up the order to finish fourth ahead of Dan Cammish and Tom Chilton.
Completing the top ten behind the experienced Hyundai man was Josh Cook, Aron Taylor-Smith and the two Mercedes of Rowbottom and Adam Morgan.
